FACTS
Seven over 70% in Grand Prix World Cup Final 2006
Those who had expected Amsterdam not to be as exciting as the European final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch were mistaken! Seven competitors scored above the 70% in the Grand Prix, for the first time outside Germany presented by Kampmann. “A very happy number of wonderful rides!”, chairman of the judges Loriston Clarke commented.
The first rider to reach the 70% was Arlène Page with her very ‘up-hill-moving’ elastic Hanoverian gelding Wild One. Wild One looked mature, light footed and totally unimpressed by all the difficulties he had to cope with. A perfect ‘hello’ to Europe of the first appearance of this American qualifier-winner!
Anky van Grunsven was the first to go of the best six of the last group. The almost full house was totally silent and ‘bewitched’ by the fairy tale of the elegant pair. “Although this morning Keltec Salinero was very relaxed, still I spotted now in the arena a little tension in the canter zigzag and he surprised me by starting the two tempi changes by himself, while he normally always waits for me. It urged me to count really fast!”, Anky said smiling afterwards. She never remembers her scores, but as her Las Vegas World Cup Final Grand Prix of last year was rewarded with 78,00% (click here for last years World Cup Grand Prix Results), she reached her personal best Grand Prix score now, heading to 78,250%.
Grand Prix-winner of the Las Vegas Final Edward Gal and G4S Lingh had some unexpected mistakes in the Grand Prix and only reached for 71,917% and the sixth position. In the test it seemed like Edward hardly could use his own right leg, laying it far too much back, resulting in mistakes, like the start of a half pass instead of extended trot and a transition from the walk into the canter instead of the passage.
After the test, Edward Gal discovered a swelling behind the girth, exactly at the right position of his leg which had been to sensible to keep his leg well positioned. Cold compresses now have to take the soreness away. Edward Gal can only hope that he will be able to ride next Saturday…
Happy Brink and Werth
Second-place finisher Brink only had a small mistake in the two-tempis. The test of third finished Werth on Warum Night FRH nicknamed Hannes looked the best and most easy performed one ever of the strong chestnut. He had a small mistake at the end of the test in the last trot extension. But both riders were happy: “We promise to give Anky a hot test on Saturday!”, they said. Tomorrow morning all riders are allowed to prepare in the arena again for training and the sound check.
