General news from the equestrian world

“Linking The Steps”, new dressage symposium by Equivents

Equivents, Inc., announces that it will host “Linking The Steps”, a symposium featuring dressage icons Klaus Balkenhol and Debbie McDonald on October 8 and 9 at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy (formerly York Equestrian Centre) in Cedar Valley, ON. Balkenhol and McDonald will be accompanied by Dr Gerd Heuschmann, a German veterinarian who specializes in the effects of training methods, both physical and mental.
“Linking The Steps” will present a unique opportunity to explore topics ranging from the selection of a young horse, training from the beginning of a horse’s career through to the Grand Prix, and the essential education of the rider. Riders of all levels will be presented, as will horses and ponies at all stages in their training, ranging from unbroken to those confirmed at Grand Prix.
“With dressage sport swiftly changing and the current unrest about different training methods as well as the ever present judging discussions, I feel it is important that the community has the opportunity to discuss, with experts in the field, the issues being debated,” says Cara Whitham, President of Equivents, Inc.

Novelty at Global Dressage Forum: Judges Handbook

Dr Volker Moritz, the chairman of the International Dressage Judges Club, will present the first part of a new Handbook for Dressage Judges at the international Global Dressage Forum, celebrating its fifth anniversary at the Bartels Academy in Hooge Mierde, Holland, on October 31 and November 1. The publication of the handbook is welcomed as an instrument to stop growing criticism on judging at international shows and Championships which puts judges under mounting pressure.
The programme of the fifth Global Dressage Forum promises to be interesting again. Last year, the group of ‘scientists’ Dr Eric van Breda and Dirk Willem Rosie, lecturing on the movement of the horse, was widely acclaimed. This year, the American scientist Dr Hilary Clayton will present a biomechanical analysis on movement and dressage practice. Topics will include mental training (Dr Rico Schuijers), talent scouting and bits and bridles. Other lectures will be given by Kyra Kyrklund, and Georg and Monica Theodorescu.
The Forum will again be chaired by British dressage rider Richard Davison.
There are still some tickets available.
