FACTS
- The five Australian selectors didn’t find any showjumping horse of the quality that is needed to face the challenge of the Worldcup Final in Las Vegas and the same counts more or less for dressage. The only Australian representative Ricky McMillan riding Crisp being at international level focuses on being present at the WEG in Aachen 2006, saving her extreme costs of about $40000 for that desired moment.
- The problem with the European competitors of the dressage and showjumping finals resisting the flight-offer of the organisation in Las Vegas is solved. Creative thinking and negotiating of Dutch trainer trainer Sjef Janssen has led to the solution that four horses Keltec Salinero (Van Grunsven NED), Geldnet Lingh (Gal NED), Barclay II (Rothenberger NED) and Björsells Briar (Brink SWE) make their flight to Los Angeles and complete their trip to Las Vegas by lorry. This schedule also provides the correct quarantaine-measures for the approved stallions Björsells Briar and Geldnet Lingh. This extra flight gives the other European dressagehorses the space they need in traveling together with the showjumpinghorses to LV. The flight to Los Angeles is scheduled on Wednesday 13th, to Las Vegas on Saturday 16th.
From the FEI General Assembly in London April 9 and 10th:
- After an intense debate during the Group Meetings and at the General Assembly, an overwhelming majority of delegates decided to propose to the IOC that, in principle, the Olympic Dressage teams would be reduced to three members, to allow more nations to participate and thus enhance the universality of the sport. Mariette Withages was re-elected as the Chairman of the Dressage Committee.
- A decision about the hosting of the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing or Hong Kong will be taken by the Executive Board of the IOC on April 19th. During the General Assembly of the FEI in London, the Beijing Organising Committee of the Olympic Games BOCOG admitted that they underestimated the veterinary issue of temporary import of horses in China and presented an alternative plan for hosting the equestrian competitions in Hong Kong. The FEI General Assembly however clearly stated its determination to adhere to the original concept of being located in Beijing, together with the other sports of the Olympic Programme.
