Victor Oliva, proprietor of Ilha Verde, confirms that the quality of horses has also improved considerably over the years: “The high quality of our horses is now very well established, and we also provide veterinary protection and ancestral pedigrees. The success of our exports has also generated more and more international interest.”
This year, the auction catalogue lists 32 horses in a wide range of ages, levels of training, qualities for chosen disciplines, broodmares with foals, as well as a perfectly matched pair of driving horses, both by Icaro. Additionally, breeders will be able to bid for services from a “star” stallion – the six-year-old Violino (Ofensor x Querida), a Lisbon champion.
Couldelaria Ilha Verde is located in Araçoiaba da Serra, close to the city of Sorocaba. The annual event has become, highlight of the fall equestrian season in São Paulo, attracts a capacity crowd of over 1,000 enthusiastic fans, including many foreign buyers of Lusitano horses. This represents a 40 percent growth in attendance since the first auction was organized in 1998.
